Finally the potholes will be filled
at the cost of 14 windshields! Huzzah! The roads are saved!
All the guys hauling the gravel have to do is put one of those bullshit stickers that say "Not Responsible for Damage to Windshields" and they're fine, not too many people know this but that sticker means that it's everyone else's fault the gravel in the back of the truck wasn't secured properly. /s
I see your sticker. I raise you a 'not responsible for broken noses' t shirt.
I feel you man. My car currently has a crack in its windshield from one of these jagaloons. I want to see the mental gymnastics these guys go through to justify not securing tiny little rocks from flying out of their truck at freeway speeds. If I haul a chair unsecured in the back of my truck, and it ends up flying out and hitting someone its pretty obvious who the asshole is in that situation.
Thank you for the belly laugh, and for my new favorite word. Really sorry about your windshield, too.
No problem, its one of the most versatile insults out there. Its both not specific but insulting at the same time.
Also gender friendly and omnist.
While still sounding old-timey racist.
Old time my buttocks, you you best hold on to your breeches you jimjiggler
A lot of folks don't know this but your insurance company likely has a very small deductible to fix windshields. Mine has a service with the $50 deductible. And they will come to you and fix it. I only found this out myself when I randomly asked at an auto shop for the glass crack fixer stuff...
But it is secured???
I mean look at the band they have!
It's the same with a lot of NDA's and other contracts. It's not illegal to put things they can't enforce. They can say they can, but they can't actually do it. To be clear, contracts can and will be enforced, but there are things they can't stipulate.
For example, if you sign an NDA to go to Tom Cruise's house party that says you won't say a word about whatever happens there, and you see Beyoncé dine on a young virgin sacrifice while you are there, that NDA can NOT do a thing to punish you for going to the police.
Or a more mundane example is those liability waivers at a go kart tracks or paintball courses. If what happened is due to their negligence, they are absolutely liable and that waiver does nothing to absolve them of it.
When there was a hostile takeover at the company where I worked we were asked to sign an employment contract. The contract stipulated that if we left we could not work for any company that used our products or a competitor's products for 2 years - worldwide.
We produced accounting software, including general ledger and accounts payable apps. Taken to the extreme, the non-compete clause meant that somebody who left could not work for any company that used any GL or AP software...period. I did not sign. Still there almost 20 years later. FWIW - the non-compete clause was never enforced.
If you're willing to listen the reason that stickers put on the trucks it's from rocks leaving the tires
. not from the load if the load comes undone or he loses Rock from because it blows off the top then yeah they're financially responsible. but if it's fly Rock from the tires like it's road debris Rock they're not responsible. And as far as this guy having a tow strap over the tailgate believe it or not some of these cities have rules. that you have to have a strap across your load not saying that's the case of this one but there are some stupid cities that have those rules.
they can put any sign on the back of any thing , does not absolve them from liability or getting a ticket for failure to secure load
Yes, that's the joke
Yeah but a lot of people don't realize that those signs actually mean fuck-all so it's a net positive comment
It means as much as a sign that says "For security purposes, persons proceeding past this point will be subject to rape."
Just because some bonehead had the phone number for a sign shop and the ability to pay for it doesn't mean that a sign can somehow suspend laws: Signs aren't hard to create, and we still have laws regardless of what a sign might say.
So what's the rule if a government worker/contractor is weed eating the side of a freeway and flings a rock into my windshield at mach 10 and puts a fucking hole in it?
Laws still apply. People should not not drop construction debris onto an open roadway.
Nor should they fling rocks toward cars (or anything else of value) at Mach 10, regardless of whether they're wearing an orange safety vest or not as they do so.
"I told you that you'd get raped" is not a valid defense after the raping actually happens.
Fuck what should I have done then? I think I still have it clipped on my dash cam sd funny enough.
It’s funny how many people believe this is binding. I’ll make a sticker that says I’m king of the massholes, make way. It’s on there, so it must be legit.
Gonna take a lot more than that here in Pennsylvania.
Have you seen our potholes???
Seriously. [Actual footage of 2nd St in Harrisburg](https://i.makeagif.com/media/1-12-2014/pRN2Gv.gif)
The genius! As they hit potholes gravel will fall and fill them
Thanks for clarifying
The strap is to hold the sides in place
It's off to a good start, but it needs more content.
Huh, not quite what I was expecting…
LOL. Worth it though
Came here to find this
Well- it certainly didn't keep the back from sliding off.
You may think that orange rope isn’t doing much but it is actually helping the sides of the trailer hug the gravel tight.
Source: never was hugged much as a child.
The orange belt only needs to be visible in order to intimidate the gravel into not moving.
Source: was belted a lot as a child.
The orange belt is actually a holy garment for the gravels religion and it reminds the gravel to follow gods laws, that being to stay in the trailer.
Source: was raised Mormon as a child
The orange belt really isn't doing anything at all.
Source: Was neglected as a child.
The orange belt is actually changing the aerodynamics of the trailer to help keep the gravel in.
Source: watched that one myth busters episode as a child.
The orange belt is upgraded from the yellow belt.
Source: took karate as a child.
It's actually keeping the trailer sides from bending out when the bucket load of rock is dumped in.
"Oh god, hear the scraping of my silicon"
::hugz for you::
Its actually keeping the sides from falling the fuck off.
You had me till the source
The gravel respects the orange rope and will not pass it.
Taking into consideration the wind, the load weight and the speed of the car plus other factors all specified here: [https://external-preview.redd.it/Lfq1IByZc0i97e3rZaCtq197hDMSG\_7xg0lTmMmPc3I.jpg?auto=webp&s=03cf719093dba155fb9b7d7aac074205a5882d98](https://external-preview.redd.it/Lfq1IByZc0i97e3rZaCtq197hDMSG_7xg0lTmMmPc3I.jpg?auto=webp&s=03cf719093dba155fb9b7d7aac074205a5882d98)
You should be gtg!
I can’t approve this, you need to simplify your equation.
And show your work
Your car needed a nice sand blasting, right?
_so anyway, I started sand blasting_
I'll have a pelting with gravel, and, um, do you have any of the river sand 'desert blast' left? I still can't see out of of the front! So much more relaxing than all that road!
Thank got the person behind your vehicle isnt on their phone focused recording while driving..
That strap should do it
The truck driver is an idiot but I am not so sure driving so close to it is a good idea just for the video.
Especially with your cellphone in your hand
But OP NEEDED the video for Reddit!! For that good karma!
I had to replace my windshield twice last year because of idiots like the truck driver.
meh, theyre doing like 20 mph tops and he is to the side of the trailer.
but why risk it? stop for a minute or slow down and enjoy a 0% chance of bullshit
Thank God that thin rope is there to protect everyone!
When the gravel see the webbing it automatically knows that it should not cross that border
Like a Faraday shield.
The rope makes me more angry than if there was nothing.
Probably because you're misunderstanding the intent of the strap. Not trying to excuse idiot behaviour, but if you think that strap is there in an effort to prevent gravel flying off the rear of the trailer, you're likely incorrect.
I picture two guys laughing while one of them buckles the "strap,"
The strap it holding up the sides. No one was laughing, it serves a purpose. You just don’t understand.
I feel like that must have been holding an improperly secured piece of plywood that flew off at highway speeds. It must have been, right???
Thats to keep the sides from bowing out. DUHHH 🤪🤪
Exactly. And if you drive slow enough, which this guy appears to be doing, most things will remain stationary on a flat deck.
Slow enough and avoiding the all too often asshat that makes you abruptly stop for no damn reason in the world 😂
Strap looks like it's holding the trailer together. Which is also alarming
I’d be more concerned by the way he has the trailer balanced and the fact his front wheels are being lifted up
It doesn't need to turn so that's ok
Its probably fine
I noticed that too and by eyeball, I’d say there’s every bit of five tons of gravel on that trailer.
Two hours and no mention of OP recording video with a cell phone while driving? Is that a record?
Could be wrong, but don’t think it’s OP.
me thinks the strap is to keep the sides from blowing out
Anyone ever see trucks with those signs that say stay back 200’ not responsible for damage? How is having debris flying off your truck not your responsibility??
Are those signs even true? Like aren’t you responsible for securing your cargo? If someone were to try to pursue damages I feel like that little sign can’t possibly hold up.
Those signs aren't true, but unless you have a dash cam you're going to have a really tough time proving that your dented or broken ____ was from someone else's cargo.
maybe im the dumbass but the straps are to hold the walls in since the weight of the gravel would push out the walls
Probably holding the sides of the trailer together.
Yeah thank god he’s holding the sidebars together so the trailer doesn’t split
I would have used a second strap for sure.
Why is it always Chicago?
The irony is astounding.
The strap is to hold the sides in place. Without it, the weight (pressure) of the rock pressing against the sides of it would cause the walls to fall outward. If this trailer has good shocks, the rock should barely move, even when hitting bumps in the road. This trailer looks like it's weighed down too much, so even if it has shocks (which it probably doesn't), the rock will bounce around and fall out at the cars behind it over every bump in the road. It should be pretty good on a flat surface, though.
I... Think they were talking about OP recording while driving.
Rip all those windshields
Don't worry, as long as the driver slapped the trailer or tugged the strap twice while saying "this ain't goin nowhere" it should be fine.
He isn't on the highway putting rock chips all over my 3 mo old car. Flatbed with gravel on the highway.
Pretty silly but I think the strap is to keep that trailer from falling apart
At least his trailer has side and a front wall. I saw an idiot with a lifted truck pulling a flatbed trailer with rock. Because his truck was lifted, the trailer was tilted backwards. When I passed him, he was getting onto the onramp for the freeway.
I'm sure he did that so that the weight of the gravel wouldn't bend the walls of the trailer.
That strap will be to hold the sides of the trailer together.
Where's the official "not responsible for windshield damage" sign on that trailer, cause you know, once you have that sign, you can do whatever the fuck you want.
Are you recording with a phone and driving tho?
Is this in Chicago on 45th and s western????? I live nearby where they pick up gravel and see this happen a ton but this looks super familiar I honestly even think I’ve see this very same trailer
well he's missing the red rag that makes everything safe
I believe the strap is keeping the sides from leaning outward.
Tension belts solve everything.
"Maintain distance of 50 ft. Not responsible for windshield damage."
I think it's more the *does* know his trailer sides will fall off if it isn't secured
"That aint going nowhere"
Strap for safety✔️
Never a speed bump when you need one
How do you "strap in" gravel
“Yehep that’ll hold it”
I don’t see the big deal. There is clearly a strap to secure the gravel.
I don't even leave the fucking house anymore bc ITS ALWAYS SOME DUMB MUTHER FUCKER ALWAYS OUT THERE ON THE ROAD LIKE THIS!!
Thats a way to kill a motorcyclist
That’s the power of a dad as long as you snap it and say “this ain’t going no where” nothing will ever move it’s basically a law
The guy is probably working for Glassauto / Carglass
It's to prevent the bed walls from bowing out. Perhaps Op is the Idiot in the car?
The real idiot here is the person filming it, while driving right next to it.
It's to stabilise the sides of the trailer dumbass
Hmmm can’t tell if you’re serious or not. Forget the rope- how bout all those loose rocks flying at whoever is behind or on the sides of him.
I'm not talking about that. I'm just saying that's why the tie downs there. There is no tailgate you have to stabilise the sides we do it all the time.
But…. That’s not what we’re talking bout here.
But yes it was read above
It wasn’t. Your first comment was on the post, not a reply to any comment. And the post is clearly talking about the gravel.
Read the fucking headline and the comments
Why so aggressive? And what comments should I read, the one’s that you didn’t reply to? If you want to talk about something someone commented on then you should write a reply on that specific comment, not on the post.
And the post title seems to be talking about the lack of a wall in the rear, not specifically the rope.
Oh I thought it said " the proper way to secure" referring to the rope as comments have suggested. What did you read?
Yeah there are always different ways to read/interpret sentences, I read the title like it meant something was missing (a rear wall) while you read it as something that was there (the rope) but not good enough. As for your original comment and the other comments in this thread it’s very possible that it is holding the sides together so they stay upright, but I haven’t driven with a trailer yet so I don’t know much about them.
What the fuck
Hey I didn’t see a single rock fall out so it must be working /s
*slaps the mound of gravel*
"That's not going anywhere"
I'm sure he flicked the strap and said "These babies aint going nowhere"
So he should be alright
Thank god the driver recorded it while driving.
Tightens the ratchet strap
Ah yeah these are going everywhere
Maybe pull over and wait for them to get far away enough to not risk your paint? That probably makes too much sense.
Downvoted because that makes too much sense. “I’m going to get all upset, take a video, whine about it online, and get sympathy for my woes” All in the name of being terrified by an actual man working an actual job. Good times!
Following your logic, 98% of content on this sub should be downvoted then.
Lol people are putting others in real danger in most. This is a landscaping truck going like 10 mph
That's clearly a work van, not any kind of heavy duty truck. I'm not sure why his speed matters? It's okay to do stupid shit if you do it slowly? He has an unsecured load that can damage other people's vehicles or cause an accident and the trailer has so much tongue weight the vans front tires are hardly on the ground.
its to keep the sides of the shit trailer from blowing out like your moms cankles in anything taller than pumps.
inb4 every white knight on this sub asking why you're on your phone
Hell . I'd be calling the police on that. He is going to cause a lot of property damage
That’s a strong ass cargo strap lol I love that invisible net/tailgate. Is this apart of the new infrastructure bill?
that thing is disgustingly overweight lol
I suggest to not go behind him .
Or in front of him.
Personally I would have put that strap a tad bit lower but otherwise perfect!
It’s fine. I needed a new windshield anyway.
Don’t worry, there’s a rope holding it in!
Maybe the door fell off
Now these are the kinds of idiots I want to see
He forgot the cross ties
It's strapped in, what else did you want?
When the new guy isnt as experienced as he claims to be
That lone strap is a hero
Actually howling at the narration 😂🤣
There was an attempt.. ohh wrong place.🥴
At least it’s strapped down
As a jeep owner, I pre pulled myself over when I saw this video
That’s actually an invisible barrier below the strap
Well there IS a tiedown stretched across the sides. That should do the trick.
That strap... amazing
Thank God he strapped it
Should be fine.
Its strapped in bro chill
Stay back at least 50ft! Not responsible for broken windshields!
That rope is the Gandalf of ropes: You shall not pass!
It’s got a ratchet strap, she ain’t goin’ anywhere
You think that strap should hold?
The tie down 💀
Is that Wisconsin or Minnesota? I can’t quite make out the accent on “out”
I’d go with Western New York
He put the strap on!What more do you want?A tailgate?!? Thems for SISSIES!!!
the gravel knows it shouldn’t go past that strap. don’t see a problem with this
I once saw colour dust being transported at the back of a open trailer. The strapped the dust down. Nothing flew. What the fuck
So much better.
Good job 😬
It’s a load bearing strap right?
wouldnt this be illegal in the us? unsecured load or unsafe vehicle,
Dude is living the Minecraft mentality
I bet whatever that strap was holding fell off along the way.
Like putting A size bra on giant titties.
If he hits the brakes too hard his van will go faster
Don't you see that they're on a tight budget?
This is the same feeling I get when I'm on a wooden rollercoaster with a lap bar that's too high
