Why do people think you can cure autism with a self help book and 6 weeks of therapy?

Cause they don’t suffer from it. They just think they know what it’s like.
because neurotypicals don't tend to know the difference between masking and not having autism
I try to view these interactions as the other person attempting to help despite not knowing how. They don’t mean to be condescending jerks, they just wish they could help.
You can also limit who you share the information with/complain to. Most often people assume that if you are sharing personal information with them, you must want them to help or share their opinion with you.
I don't think people think that.
This. Isn't it a common knowledge to seek professional help for autism-related stuff?
Why do people think you can cure a virus, with horse dewormer?! Lol
Because they don't understand. This idea that everyone you meet should be an expert in whatever complex condition you're dealing with isn't reasonable.
I don’t expect them to know shit, I expect them to have the self awareness to shut their mouth and not link me some shitty self help book and tell me to get help I totally havnt been getting the past decade
