Giannis Antetokounmpo (26) is only a year older than Donovan Mitchell (25). What are some other crazy age gaps in the NBA?
By - Complete_Beach_2583
Jaesean Tate and DLo were both freshman at Ohio State at the same time. Russell is entering his 7th season in the NBA and Tate is entering his second season.
I don’t care if facts can certify this. I don’t believe it.
Played overseas for a few years after not getting drafted.
*He doesn’t care*
DLo entering his 7th season is actually really surprising to me
And think of all he has accomplished in those seven years.
He got that sweet sweet max. Most important accomplishment for a NBA player.
Fr. I think it's all the time off from injuries or maybe it's that he went viral as a high school kid but he still just seems so young to me lol, even though he's on like his 4th team now at this point.
Just the fact that DLo’s already entering his 7th year is crazy to me. He still feels like a 2nd year player to me lmfao
He feels like a second year player that’s been in the league for 12 years
I had a manager who once said:
There are people with 20 years of experience. And there are people with 20 times one year of experience.
lmao that's a great line
I’m using this line from now on
2014 recruiting class!
Malcolm Brogdon and Buddy Hield are only a couple months younger than Bismack Biyombo
Evan Fournier is only 2 months older than Hield.
Okay now this one is crazy af
Weird you put Brogdon and heild together when one of them is 22 while Brogdon is 42
Joke is on you bc Biyombo is 42 😎
I feel like Bam will be Bismack in a couple of years. Dude is only 24 and I reckon he'll look hella old before 30. Hell, Bam and Bismack are only 5 years apart.
Wow, I thought Bismack is at least in his mid 30's and about to be out of the league.
One of those statements is true
[Greg Oden](https://imgur.com/a/WjNBlCY) is only 33 years old.
This guy got the short end of the sticks in terms of aging genetics.
And short end of one leg
Greg does have a third leg though tbf
Man, his story always bums me out. Shame he couldn't overcome his injuries.
dude started out his career looking 33 yrs old
Always looked like he could be Lebron's dad
If Lebron and R Kelly could conceive a child, i'm positive that it would resemble Oden by the time he reached 45.
Even at 33 those are some city miles
Lmfaoooo city miles
The Arn Anderson of basketball.
Black dont crack*
*except greg oden
It’s not even like he cracked, dude just has a grown man face.
You got baby faces and then you got dudes like Greg oden.
He going to look great when he's 80.
He already does look great for 80
Hasn't aged a day in 15 years.
I think you mean he ages 15 years every day. He looks like he fought in WW2
Yeah but he’s looked like that since he was drafted. So the original statement holds true, looked 82 at 19, still looks 82 at 33.
Greg Oden needs to go on Queer Eye. They can find a haircut and look that works for him, so the internet leaves him alone.
Or... He is the host of a show called 'Straight Eye' where he gives fashion tips that will allow a fay, scene gay guy to attend a family hog-roast in Minnesota.
We don't do hog roasts in Minnesota. We do fish fries.
I took a punt, and twisted my ankle.
Lebron is older than OKC’s head coach rn
But what about next year?
Nah the space-time continuum will fluctuate next year so this crazy fact only works right now
Fun fact, lebron is the same age as the coach, and GM, of the Lakers.
Cameron Johnson (2019 Draft Class) is 8 months older than his teammate Devin Booker (2015 Draft Class)
Chris Paul (2004 Draft Class) is also older than his teammate Devin Booker (2015 Draft Class)
Additionally, LeBron James (2003 Draft Class) is older than his teammate Talen Horton-Tucker (2020 Draft Class)
He's also older than Luol Deng (2005 Draft Class) who is still on the Lakers payroll
ONLY ONE MORE YEAR!
Didn't have to do then like that man...
Still? STILL? What the fuck man.
How and why? Is this some Detroit/Josh Smith type agreement?
Yes, they stretched his contract to sign Lebron in 2018, this is the last season they’ll have to pay him
As a UNC fan (and student at the time) I forget that people on this sub didn’t know him as the grad student who wasn’t remotely expected to go pro. Dude might have been the oldest guy on our team when he came here, and then stayed another year after that
Okay that one is also crazy damn
Andrew Bynum is 33
Ow my brain wtf
Duncan Robinson is older than Giannis
I mean yeah Duncan is 45 and Robinson is 56
amazing that he can still play in the NBA at 101 years old
Did you have that one planned or was it more spur of the moment?
I think it just kind of Pops up in his head.
Manu guys good at this
Shooters tend to age more gracefully. I can see him still contributing even when he's 170
Why bring legendary YouTuber Duncan Robinson into this
Holy shit lol
Kendrick Perkins and LeBron James are the same age
and Taj Gibson
And my axe
And Deron Williams is only a couple months older
In the 2021 NBA Draft the age gap between Joshua Primo and Chris Duarte is more than 5 and a half year. To be precise, it's 5 years, 6 months, 11 days so exactly 2020 days.
Josh Primo: Born December 24th, 2002
Nat Hickey: Born January 30th, 1902
100 years, 10 months, 24 days
For those who are unfamiliar, Nat Hickey was the coach of the '47-'48 Providence Steamrollers, and after some injuries, he activated himself for one game at age 46 and was terrible. For comparison, this would be like if Tim Duncan activated himself. Nat's record won't be touched except for some sort of stunt. Maybe Dick DeVos signs himself to a 10-day? I dunno.
Lmao I wanna see Stan van gundy check himself into garbage time and show off the handles one time
Hell yeah. That clip of him is actually kinda nuts 😂
If Tim Duncan activated himself for one game this season he's as old as Derrick White & Josh Primo combined and honestly I'm here for it, fucking GSG
Sam Merrill is 25 (2020 draft)
Nikola Jokic is 26 (2014 draft)
Merrill played 4 years at Utah State and I believe took two years off to do Mormon stuff.
He went to Nicaragua.
To do Mormon stuff.
To do what now?
Yes, but where?
We talking soaking?
Just Mormon things
My moms from Nicaragua
It’s always fun seeing it pop up in culture
Sam Merrill looks 18-19
Still kind of surprising since they were drafted 4 years apart, but Mitchell just turned 25 while Giannis turns 27 in early December, so it's much closer to a full 2 years older than it is to 1 year older.
Damian Lillard being 3 years older than guys like Anthony Davis and Bradley Beal is something I find myself forgetting since they were all in the same draft class (Lillard was a 4-year college player while Davis and Beal were both one-and-done).
Alternately for me, I’m shocked David and Lillard were in the same draft class. It feels like Dame has been in the NBA forever but I guess I knew about AD in high school from the unibrow and his college success so I perpetually think of him as a young guy
If Dame was 1 & done he'd be in the same draft class as Steph, very weird to think about
And Timberwolves probably would've passed up on him too
We’re already dead bro
I feel like people still talk about Davis like he’s barely out of his rookie contract too. The guy is probably closer to retirement than he is is rookie year.
I think it's because Dame came out the gate producing at a high level and he felt like he was mature from the jump.
Batum is one year older than him but was drafted 4 years before him by Portland.
Steph Curry is older than Derrick Rose
Rose's last 20ppg season came before Steph's first.
Despite being the same age and from the same draft class (3 picks apart), the primes of Kyle Lowry and Rajon Rondo never overlapped. They never appeared in the same all-star game.
An even crazier one:
At the end of the 2012 season, Andrew Bynum had been the Lakers full time starter for 4 years. He had two rings and was coming off a 2nd Team All-NBA season with 19/12 averages.
At the same time, Kyle Lowry had fewer than 140 career starts and was competing with Goran Dragic for minutes on a mediocre Rockets team, re-Harden.
Since that point, Lowry has made 6 All Star teams and won a championship. Bynum played a total of 26 more games and hasn't played in almost 7 years.
Lowry is 19 months older than Bynum.
We see this happen in sports sometimes. I wonder what suddenly "clicks" for these people and they take their game to another level
For Lowry, I think it was just the fact that his game was more suited for a stocky build that comes with age. He settled in when he hit his comfortable muscle mass and then found a role beside a scorer which allowed him to defend and make plays without that burden.
Another Toronto example for this is Jose Bautista. His career high in home runs was 16. He comes to Toronto and makes some adjustments to his approach and swing and hits 54 home runs at age 29.
Andrew Bynum is only 6 months older than Steph Curry.
Still crazy to think how brief Bynum's career was he.
Ok this one legit threw me off lol
One that has blown me away for a while is CJ Miles, a 15 year vet who joined the NBA in 2005 and is no longer in the league, is only 7 months older than Joe Ingles, a 8 year vet that joined the league in 2014.
Joe was busy Booming in Australia
Ingles also spent 5 years playing in Europe before making the NBA, and Miles came straight from HS to the NBA (back when you could still do that).
That mileage the NBA puts on legs is next level.
Payton Pritchard is older than Jayson Tatum by a month and change.
A weird one that sticks out to me is that (from oldest to youngest) Malcolm Brogdon, Buddy Hield, Anthony Davis, and Bradley Beal are all 28 years old. Beal is the youngest of the four? And even moreso, Michael Kidd Gilchrist is younger than ALL OF THEM 😂
In the case of Buddy he was for some reason given the wrong age throughout college.
Brogdon and Hield are the same age right now, but they weren’t born the same year as the other 3. They’re actually a year older and the same age as Tobias Harris. Those two have also played a combined 684 career games, and Tobias has played 680.
I could have sworn Beal was already like 31, the same age as John Wall. I guess they were a duo for so long, I kind of confused their ages.
Steven Adams too is 28, and younger than Bradley Beal
I was going to write that Steven Adams turned 28 this summer, which still makes him the oldest Grizzly. However, according to Basketball Reference, [Shaq Buchanan](https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/MEM/2022.html) is an eternal being.
Dude looked [like](https://www.odt.co.nz/sites/default/files/styles/odt_landscape_extra_large_4_3/public/story/2020/12/gettyimages-1132543179.jpg?itok=hwmbvpUK) this at just 24
Atlanteans age differently
He’s from Atlanta?
The alpha and the omega
To express Shaq Buchanan's birthday in our own understanding of spatial physics - and therefore expressable by Sports Reference - would cause the curvature of spacetime to rapidly increase, causing a Big Crunch that would cause all matter to revert to a singularity.
Andre Drummond is only 1 year older than Giannis
And Lottery pick Chris Duarte is only 1 year younger than Mitchell
Drummond is younger than I thought. Hope he gets it together more after last year.
Techincally I lied Drummond is 28 and Giannis is 26 but they're only seperated by like a year and 100 days
I don't usually hate but I genuinely don't believe Drummond has a long future left in the league
It feels like he’s gonna be the next Roy Hibbert. Has one or two hyped as hell years, league figures him out, and then he kinda just fades into obscurity.
Hibbert fell off a cliff over night. Drummond will never fall off that quickly
He trick everyone long enough to secure almost $140m in contract money so far, Drummond's done pretty well in that department for a guy who looks like he has the fundamentals of a JV player
Lol thought he was 30+
Drummond somehow went from promising young player straight to aging vet and just skipped the prime years part
James Naismith (would be 160 years old) is only three years older than Greg Oden
Brandon Roy is only 5 months older than Lebron
Now I'm crying
Chris Boucher is older than Andre Drummond.
Davion Mitchell (Kings rookie) is already 23.
Our rookie, Chris duarte, is 24
Mitchell fits the Warriors timeline and a Moody fits the Kings. Interesting how it panned out. Loving Mitchell even though I’m dubious about the fit.
Mitchell fits our timeline pretty well, which is just, Fox’s contract. Fox and Mitchell are nearly the same age, and Fox just signed his Max, Tyrese is turning 21. We don’t have much young talent really, some second rounders that are on two-ways (Quetta, Ramsey, Woodard) and we are trying to win now. Moody would’ve been a bad pick for us cause he’s not a true three and needs development and we are NOT known as a good development team. Mitchell is perfect for us really. If we can go forward for the next 5 seasons with Fox, HALIBURTON, Mitchell and Holmes then fill in around all that, we finally have some fucking consistency. If Bagley rounds out a little and wants to stay at a decent deal, he’d be a solid other young player at almost 23 himself.
You thought Giannis was a year or two order than Mitchell but you were surprised when you found out that… Giannis was a year or two older than Mitchell?
1 year isn't 1 year, I'll explain later
I give it a 5/7, perfect score
>TIL that Giannis was only a year older than Donovan, which blew my mind because I thought Donovan was at least a year younger
man i thought i was the only one to notice
Bogdan Bogdanovic is older than Beal. The former signed his first non-rookie contract last off-season.
Bogdan also didn't come to the NBA until 3 years after he was drafted.
Anthony Davis is older than Steven Adams. AD still seems to me like a young guy coming into his prime while Adams has seemed like a vet presence for years
Steven was born looking like a vet
Jayson Tatum (19) is the same age as he was when he came into the league in 2017 (19)
Markieff Morris and Marcus Morris were born on the same exact day.
They also coincidentally have the same parents.
Pretty sure Brook and Robin Lopez are in a similar situation.
Christian Wood and Jokic are the same age
So what you're saying is that Christian Wood is confirmed MVP this year?
Buddy Hield is older than KCP and Beal
Chris Boucher is 28 years old. 2021/22 will be his 5th year in the NBA.
OG Anunoby is 24 years old. 2021/22 will be his 5th year in the NBA.
Andrew Bynum has been out of the league for 7 years, but he's only 33.
Gilbert Arenas and Danny Granger wouldn't be the oldest player in the league right now.
Udonis Haslem is like 42 so not suprising
Pascal Siakam is older than Giannis
no no no
Sorry I can’t, I live in Texas :/
Brittany Renner and PJ Washington
Anthony Davis is only 2 years older than Kyle Kuzma
I'm sorry wut
Kuzma is only 7 months younger than Giannis...
[Maybe this is a good time to remind everyone that the Mavs once had 3 PGs all born on the same day of the same year. JJ Barea, Deron Williams and Raymond Felton all born on June 26, 1984 and on the same roster playing the same position.](https://sports.yahoo.com/three-mavericks--point-guards-have-the-same-birthday-in-the-same-year-000122338.html?a20=1)
Tyler Hansbrough is 2 years older than Andrew Bynum
Former number one pick Anthony Bennett is only 28
Thon Maker is the same age as Gregg Popovic.
andrew bynum and miles plumlee are the same age being 7 draft classes apart
"Giannis was only **a year older**"
"I thought Donovan was at least **a year or two younger**"
Isnt that the same thing then lol?
It's easy to forget that Giannis might not even be in his prime yet. Scary
It's pretty safe to assume he's in his prime. I mean he's 26 and going on 27 these next 2 years should be his peak as a player if not last year already. Maybe he improves the mid range shot but it's hard to see how else he gets much better. He's such a fully fleshed out player for who he is as a big man. The handles are pretty good the passing is pretty great and the finishing is phenomenal. Not like he's going to get more athletic as he ages. Maybe he gets more skilled but he's pretty darn skilled as is.
> TIL that Giannis was only a year older than Donovan, which blew my mind because I thought Donovan was at least a year or two younger
This is like saying you thought the sky was blue and your mind was blown because you looked outside and the sky was blue.
“I thought Donovan was at least a year or two younger than he actually is” was what he meant
The age gap between Jalen Brunson (25yo - 2018 class) and Kristaps Porzingis (26yo - 2015 class) is smaller than the age gap between Jalen Brunson and Luka Doncic (22yo - 2018 class)
Julius Randle is older than Giannis. only a couple month but still.
You're amazed to find out he's a year older because you thought he was a "year or 2 older"?
Did I really read that?
How does that blow your mind when that's what you thought? Giannis is one year older, which means Donovan is at least one year younger....
Luka (22) is younger than Davion Mitchell (23).
