Always loved this fight - “and stay down….please!” The pirate sections always get hate and story wise that’s valid but I find them really fun, which is what we want from our games right?

thattoneman

Climbing through the ship wreck yard is pretty fun, and the final set piece of the capsizing ship is an awesome one, but the utter pointless-ness of it really puts a damper on those sections for me. The gun fights on the ship aren't particularly fun, and honestly getting the capsizing ship and crashing airplane back to back feels redundant in terms of "holy shit how did Nate survive that" moments. I want to enjoy those chapters, but they just wreck the pacing of the game and don't contribute enough fun moments to justify the couple hours you'll spend on them.

NicParvisMagna

Yeah, that’s a well written arguement, I can’t fault it - barring saying I like the chapters and and quite like they let you shoot or brawl your way through in big open areas - like the section with the ships and you can dive in the water etc. I do like those bombastic areas and wished U4 had a few more of them, akin to the first demo area in the jungle. I do wish Nate was after something more than the lie he’s chasing. Maybe getting his ring or the astrolabe back or something.

JJ_BLT99

My head hurts from all the headbutts in this video

The-Solid-Smoker

Least your butt doesn't hurt too.

UngusBungus_

That Sully Icon makes this reply even better

OneUnkind

Funny how this fist fight is maybe one of my favorite sequences in the game and it opens maybe my least favorite chapter.

sunjellies24

Yeah I just got to this chapter a couple days ago and I stopped playing 😬 I'm sure I'll go back at some point but I was not feeling it at the time

M-Yu

Nate becoming Batman in Uncharted 3 was pretty fun, but I’m glad they did away with extensive hand to hand fights in 4

UngusBungus_

And somehow, Nadine beat him AND Sam at the same time.

NicParvisMagna

I think a big part of the problem is there’s no third fight where the Drake’s win. If they set her up throughout as this absolute fighting beast, who always gets the better of them and you actually build dread of how tough she is it’d be great. A tense final fight after she’s whupped your ass twice before. But because they wanted to use her for LL, she just kinda slinks off. Which I didn’t hate, but as a self contained story - Uncharted 4’s Nadine arc ends very unsatisfactorily.

weegee19

Pre-retirement Nate was a different beast, too many fans forget this.

UngusBungus_

In what way?

weegee19

I dunno, the fact that he actually could bob-and-weave around multiple opponents, unlike in 4, where you can only dodge by rolling or breaking grapples.

UngusBungus_

I’m pretty sure that has no prospect in lore, because we see Nate fighting Gustavo’s men and he doesn’t weave and dodge.

weegee19

Nate was 22 then, 8 years before Uncharted 1, 10 years before 2 and 12 before 3. His style was obviously far less refined. Nate is less skilled in 4 in many ways than in 2 lol, even in two you can weave around punches when prompted, yet Druckmann was heavily involved in 2.

UngusBungus_

Yeah

weegee19

You can clearly see why, as much as I like 4 to the point where it's just about my favourite in the series, I have some pretty specific gripes with it.

UngusBungus_

Yeah ig

Minigun201

1. Nathan and Sam were older at that time, and Nadine probably has had her fair share of training. 2. The pirates were drunk because there's no way they wouldn't have all dog piled him.

weegee19

Marlowe's agents seemed pretty sober in the market at Yemen.

UngusBungus_

Nathan and Sam were still fit even for their age, add on that their fighting experience. I can agree that Nadine could have beat Nathan alone, but you couldn’t even lay a finger on her.

Minigun201

As many problems as that fight may have had, I still thought it was a cool scene.

UngusBungus_

Oh definitely

sunjellies24

Yeah anyone that can climb & jump the way Mr. Drake can is, I'd say, *incredibly* fit. The finger strength needed to just hang over a tall af cliff for a long ass time is impressive. Could win a long-jump record too probably

clown_shoes1

Why is it so hard to believe that she was an incredible bad ass fighting machine? For example Amanda Nunes slaps the piss out of most men!

weegee19

So was Nate once upon a time, and he showed far better feats in the past. Nate broke out of grips of far stronger opponents yet he couldn't break out of Nadine's? It's kinda ridiculous.

UngusBungus_

Nadine was, but she would constantly and effortlessly best 2 of the best fighters. Also she got absolutely destroyed by Asav.

The810kid

So Nate beating a room full of men like John Wick because of the script is totally passable but Nadine beating up two guys because of the script isn't ?

UngusBungus_

Nate has clearly shown his prowess, Yes I definitely believe Nadine can defeat him but the fact that you could hardly touch her is absurd, ESPECIALLY when Sam joins in.

The810kid

Nate and Sam spent the entire day mountain climbing and fighting Shoreline and Nadine was fresh. Nadine also doesn't beat them she buys time.

UngusBungus_

It’s a very minor flaw

hunthill40

I still can't believe they got rid of the block and parry mechanic in UC4. The hand to hand combat was so good in this one I was hoping they would amp it up for 4. Which is weird considering the final battle has a blocking mechanic.

Wooden-Cricket-2944

Those pirates are all wasted on rum. Shows the evidence just after the fight. ;)

weegee19

Nate repeated the same feat against Marlowe's men in the Yemen market area, and they seemed pretty sober to me. So Nate would have been able to do the same here even if they weren't drunk.

Wooden-Cricket-2944

I think they were all on opium in the market, that’s why they all kept telegraphing their every move.

Confident-Medicine75

I remember getting past that part on crushing was the worst

Frankie06fs-

I don’t understand why UC 4 didn’t stick with this combat. It was absolutely perfect imo.

Tzifos150

1:50 Come on pretty boah!

nutmeggold

"Pretty boy? You're kidding me? PrEtTy bOah?!"

Truth_07

i love how nathan drake knows absolutely no martial arts but is basically batman in a 1v7

weegee19

Martial arts isn't about looking like Bruce Lee. Nate's style is a funky blend of various martial arts, plus he was trained by Sully, who was a former Navy soldier. Sure, he isn't a *true* martial artist, but he knows a fair bit.

Robbymartyr

I always have a hard time accepting segments like this because they make very little sense. You mean to tell me that this room full of guys, with questionable morals, aren't going to just all jump him at once, dogpile him, and then stomp him into the ground? Admittedly this is not just a problem with this game... it's a problem that many games face. Honestly, it's just one of those things you have to accept with video games because I can't even think of a way that they could possibly do it that would be done logically and still be a winnable fight. I would still like to see somebody try though.

The810kid

It's believable when Nate does it. With Nadine everyone loses their minds

Larson4220424

Tell me about it!

TrueFudge7840

Should I Play This?

meme-appr0ved

I thought uncharted 2 was the worst because the combat system was stolen from arkham asylum.

PMantis13

Is this from 3?

clod_firebreather

This and the fish market fight. Amazing.
